When Lin Yi walked out of the flames unscathed, the soldiers on the battlefield felt a deep despair. Despite having various means and weapons at their disposal, they all realized that these weapons they relied on were utterly insufficient against a man who could continuously die and come back to life, possessing an unimaginable vitality that allowed him to crawl out of hell even with just a fingerbone left.
The officer's curses came through the earpiece, the crackling of electrical currents clearly tinged with fear and anger. As the highest commander of the special forces team, he should have remained calm and composed, even in the face of death.
But the shock of the miracle before him was far more terrifying than death; he even began to doubt that the world was just a virtual game, and that the man in front of him, named Lin Yi, was the player, while he himself was merely an NPC program that had been preset to stand in the player's way.
His worldview collapsed because of Lin Yi, which is even more terrifying than death!
The soldiers also began to disregard the battlefield's orders; they whispered among themselves, glancing at their comrades beside them. They saw the cold sweat on their foreheads and the horror in their eyes. They recognized in their comrades' eyes their own identical expressions of terror and helplessness.
But their psychological resilience is much stronger than that of ordinary people; at least they are not shouting things like 'the devil has come' or 'Satan is here.' They are just gripping their guns tighter, which gives them some insignificant comfort and courage.
Although the soldiers knew that firearms were of no use against the enemy before them.
“Even though I look like this, going out on the street would get me labeled as a thug or a pervert!” Lin Yi looked at his bare body, shrugged helplessly, and said, “But I still want to ask one thing—can I leave?”
Deathly silence enveloped the air, only the increasingly heavy breathing echoed in the soldiers' ears.
“Is no one going to answer?” Lin Yi stepped forward, heading towards the door: “Then I'll take it that you all agree!”
A soldier facing Lin Yi watched him approach slowly, gritting his teeth. He dropped his rifle, crouched down, and drew a dagger from his boot. Then, like a black panther hunting its prey, he swiftly lunged at Lin Yi, aiming the dagger at his vulnerable throat.
But he missed, and in the blink of an eye, Lin Yi's figure was no longer in front of him. He stopped in his tracks and looked back, only to see Lin Yi's back.
“Come on! Kill me! You monster!” the soldier shouted angrily. Being treated as insignificant by the enemy was the greatest humiliation for him as a warrior.
“I can't even take care of myself, why should I come and help you?” Lin Yi did not turn around; his voice echoed in everyone's ears: “If you seek death, why not let ‘time’ do it for you!”
Lin Yi walked in front of the military vehicle, with soldiers pointing their guns at his chest. Their eyes were filled with a sense of awe towards the unknown, but these soldiers did not step aside; they held a soldier's pride.
However, Lin Yi didn't need them to make way. With a thought, the rainbow bridge appeared, and the soldiers looked even more terrified as Lin Yi suddenly appeared behind them.
It seemed that no one could obstruct Lin Yi and stop his forward progress.
But suddenly in the army, one person raised his gun again. The surrounding soldiers looked at him in confusion: "Loka, what are you doing? Don't you see that the firearms are no longer effective against him?"
“Yes, the bullets are indeed useless now!” Loka fixed his gaze on the slowly moving figure: “But after countless bullets have turned this monster into a beehive, can we not reconsider our approach? We don't necessarily have to kill him!”
"Are you saying?"
A special bullet shot out from the gun barrel, precisely hitting Lin Yi's right shoulder and injecting all the medication into his body.
“Landross sedative bullets!” Loca put away the long gun and said easily, “Usually, just one is enough to knock out a 6-ton adult elephant! Dealing with a human is even easier! Just look!”
The seemingly invincible figure fell to the ground.
……
When Lin Yi woke up again, he found himself lying on an operating table, with his limbs tightly bound and unable to exert any force. The overhead surgical light was somewhat blinding, and there was a layer of transparent glass around him. He could see many researchers in white coats moving about like ants outside the glass enclosure.
“Doctor Elfa, he's awake!”
A man with thinning white hair, prominent cheekbones, a gaunt face, and a slightly sickly appearance leaned close to the glass enclosure, his intensely curious eyes fixated on Lin Yi.
Lin Yi smiled and took the initiative to greet, "Hello!"
His voice was transmitted through an electronic speaker from within the closed glass casing, modified into a cold, mechanical tone.
Dr. Elfia also smiled, his smile veiled with a shadow, resembling a big villain in a movie. In fact, his subsequent words made one feel that it was truly a waste of talent for him to play a small role as a doctor here instead of portraying a villain with swagger.
“Hello, Mr. Lin Yi, do you know? Your completely unnatural recovery ability has totally shattered my scientific worldview!” The doctor's eyes bulged like fish eyes, riddled with a dense network of blood vessels, making one seriously doubt whether his physical condition was quite okay.
Lin Yi wanted to shrug, but the movement was restricted, so he could only tilt his head and say, “Oh really? How about I apologize for that?”
“No, no, no! You don’t need to apologize!” Dr. Airfa shook his head: “Although you shattered my worldview and destroyed much of the knowledge I accumulated over my lifetime, you also gave me an opportunity, an opportunity to find answers from you!”
“Do you really think this is an opportunity?” Lin Yi sighed, “The process of searching for answers will be a long and endless dead end! After all, I haven't found the answer myself!”
“That's for you to consider!” The doctor's tone was laced with disdain: “In fact, many people don't understand their own bodies, their thoughts in their own brains, even though they use this body and this mind from birth to death. So it's quite normal for you not to understand your own capabilities!”
“Doctors understand patients' physical conditions better than the patients themselves, and here we have gathered a research team comprising top anthropologists, pathologists, biologists... as well as physicists and mathematicians from the last half-century. This team will become the 'doctors' who understand you best!”
“The secrets hidden within your body will be uncovered by us one by one, but this process…” Dr. Elfa paused and said, “Because you are currently not considered part of humanity, the protections applicable to humans may not protect you, so I hope you can prepare yourself mentally!”
“You guys are too arrogant and lack respect!” Lin Yi shook his head, then shifted the tone of his voice, smiling as he said, “However, I do think this is a good thing, so I sincerely wish you all the best in finding the answers everyone is looking for!”
“Of course we will! Good luck to you!” Dr. Elfa put away his smile and, with a cold expression, ordered his assistant beside him: “Get ready, we will start the first experiment in ten minutes!”
"Yes, Doctor."
……
After ten minutes, Lin Yi looked at the rapidly spinning saw blade in front of him and couldn't help but sigh,
“Honestly, won’t this be a hassle to clean up later?”
